28.1.2017 - Mikko Eskelinen fastest WRC-driver in Arctic Lapland Rally - Not any chance to match the speed for new R5-drivers

Highslide JS

Highslide JS
Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and his co-driver Arto Kapanen competed in Arctic Lapland Rally which was driven in final weekend of January at the region of Rovaniemi, Arctic Circle. After 10 fast-paced special stages and 251,61 special stage kilometres the duo was fastest World Rally Car driver but it was enough only to reach dissapointing 9th highest Finnish Rally Championship points. Eskelinen and Kapanen couldn't match for the speed of modern R5 cars.

Before entering the traditional season opener, Eskelinen and Kapanen had found a good setup for their car in a test stage with Riku Seppä and his Dynamo rally team. Mikko entered the stages with big hopes and high confidence but were forced to have cold shower at the end of the first stage. In slow corners and tight junctions their Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2 car didn't handle as expected. Therefore earned self-confidence was immediately lost as the duo weren't able to match their speed against top drivers.

After 10 stages Eskelinen and Kapanen entered chequered flag six minutes and 4,7 seconds slower than winner Skoda Fabia R5 driver, reighning Finnish Rally Champion Teemu Asunmaa. Mikko was deeply dissapointed for the unexcepted result.

- I thought we had an excellent preparations for the rally as everything supposed to be allright. However the stages were lots of faster conditions than in any previous years. Somehow our setup didn't work as we wanted and even we were able to improve our times compared previous years we still were slower than our rivals, Eskelinen tells.

- Now we need to look at the mirror and humble appologize for all fans that we couldn't match for the hopes everyone had. I know that we lost a lot in tight junctions and slow corner combinations as I didn't have confidence to drive as I supposed to be. I also kno that our Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2 car is very old car comparing modern R5 cars and therefore the car performance is not as good as our fellow rivals have. Now we just must to think how to improve our pace, Eskelinen continues.

Arctic Lapland Rally was won by Teemu Asunmaa, who took leadership and victory in final 52kms stage as he passed nine times Finnish Rally Champion Juha Salo. Next round of Finnish Rally Championship is to be driven in fourth weekend of February at the region of Mikkeli.

Final results 52th Arctic Lapland Rally 2017, Rovaniemi, SM1-group, Super4
1. Teemu Asunmaa & Jonne Halttunen, Skoda Fabia R5, 2:06:56,4
2. Juha Salo & Jarno Ottman, Peugeot 208 T16 R5, +7,7sec
3. Jussi Vainionpää & Mika Juntunen, Citroën DS3 R5, +3:03,1sec

9. Mikko Eskelinen & Arto Kapanen, Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2, +6:04,7sec

19.2.2017 - Mikko Eskelinen and three times Finnish Hockey Champion Jari Jääskeläinen 2nd fastest in Riihivuori Rallysprint

In his long hockey career Jari Jääskeläinen played in 555 Finnish Hockey league matches and won three Finnish Hockey Championship titles. Now in third weekend of February he entered Riihivuori Rallysprint as a co-driver for Mikko Eskelinen in Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2 car. In snowdy 3kms special stage they were second fastest competitors, just 0,79 seconds slower than winner Samuli Pokela.

Mikko Eskelinen organized a lottery in his Facebook fanclub and offered a seat for one lucky fellow in live competition. Mirkka Jääskeläinen, who is wife for Jari Jääskeläinen entered his fiancee for the lottery and after winning it, Jääskeläinen was thrilled of the experience he gained in his motorsport debut.

Three rally sprints - three second positions

In past six years Mikko Eskelinen has been competing in Finnish Rally Championship series and in international Racing series like Lamborghini Super Trofeo. During these years he had driven only two national rally sprint events - and been second fastest in both of those events. Now as he awaits Lamborghini Super Trofeo ASIA season to get underway, he entered Riihivuori Rallysprint without any goals of success. In previous day he was forced to retire the second round of Finnish Rally Championship series which was driven in region of Mikkeli because of technical troubles he and co-driver Arto Kapanen had in their Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2 car. Therefore Eskelinen only hoped to drive two trouble-free runs in his home rally sprint event.

- In FRC Vaakuna Rally we tackled with rear diff problems and after we couldn't solve those issues we were forced to retire the event. We've been developing the speed of our old car but new parts didn't worked as planned, Eskelinen tells the reasons for the retirement.

- On next day at Riihivuori Rallysprint I drove the first lap with journalist Mika Puustelli. We were fastest drivers after first lap. However the special stage cleaned from loose snow to second lap and therefore nearly all drivers were able to drive faster the stage. Me and Jari Jääskeläinen also drove the stage 5,41 seconds faster than in first lap but it wasn't enought for victory as winner Samuli Pokela drove the stage 0,79 seconds faster than us, Eskelinen continues.

Ice circuit racing in Switzerland

Eskelinen, who in current season celebrates in 10 years of racing career, don't have time to relax as now he packs his bags and flies to Switzerland. As there are only 50 days before Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia gets underway in Malaysian Sepang Circuit, german Leipert Motorsport team has its' first meeting and enjoys a winterish day on ice circuit with its' drivers and staff.

- Preparation for ASIA racing season starts on next weekend in ice circuit which is organized by my team mate Fredy Barth. I know that we'll have a fast-paced and very relaxing weekend with crosskart cars on ice circuit. For two previous years we've enjoyed a very good atmosphere in team and therefore I'm expecting a lot for this season, Eskelinen tells.

- Also here in Finland Dynamo Rally Team, which is lead by Riku Seppä, my engineer Teemu Vesala and mechanic Harri Koskela has my respect as they had a superb effort to solve the technical issues we tackled in Arctic Lapland Rally and in FRC Vaakuna Rally. Even for Riihivuori Rallysprint we returned the car into same setup and parts has it had a year ago we still keep doing test and development work for gravel season as my goals for rallying are now set to Nelivetomies rally which is to be driven inside WRC Rally Finland, Eskelinen continues.

Final results Riihivuori Rallysprint February 19th 2017, Muurame, top-2:
1. Samuli Pokela, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, 1:53.65
2. Mikko Eskelinen, Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2, +0,79sec
3. Veli-Matti Saarelainen, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, +3,02sec
4. Ville Pynnönen, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, +4,31sec
5. Veli Nisula, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV, +5,94sec

For Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen, age of 44, the season 2017 got underway in traditional season opener in Finnish Arctic Lapland Rally which was driven in the region of Arctic Circle, northern Finland. In season 2017 Eskelinen celebrates his 10th anniversary in motorsport and enjoys speedy life in selected Finnish Rally Championship events with co-driver Arto Kapanen and in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia with swizz team mate Frédéric Nicolas "Fredy" Barth.

In campaign of six Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia weekends and 12 rounds starts in first weekend of April at Malaysian Formula-1 circuit of Sepang. Eskelinen and Barth drives german Leipert Motorsport supported 620hp RWD Lamborghini Huracán. Season continues in Thailand, in Japan, in China and finals which are to be driven in Italian circuit of Imola.

After three Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series Eskelinen seeks success in Asian circuits with familiar team and team mate.

- This will be my third season with german Leipert Motorsport and second season with Fredy Barth. I enjoy a lot to compete with Leipert Motorsport and Fredy Barth and therefore I'm very happy for this agreement so that we can now measure our speed in new Asia circuits. I know that the season 2017 is going the be a hellowa experience with new challenges for all of us, Eskelinen tells.

Each weekend includes two free practice sessions, two 15 minutes qualifyings and two 50 minutes races, in which Mikko shares a seat with Barth as they compete in PRO-AM class. Eskelinen has driven two full seasons with Lamborghini Huracán and one full season with Lamborghini Gallardo.

- Exactly 10 years ago I started my motorsport career and immediately in my first-ever season I won the title of Finnish Racing Champion. Now 10 years I go I have lots of trophies from various international events, series and circuis. Also in Asia I have good memories as three years ago in Malaysian Sepang circuit I collected two Lamborghini Super Trofeo podium positions in four races. Therefore expectations and motivation is very high as there are lots of new adventuric events ahead, Eskelinen continues.

Drive yourself Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo in Finland

Mikko Eskelinen and german Leipert Motorsport organizes a unique test session for Lamborghini Super Trofeo in Finnish Alastaro Circuit. Now everyone has a possibility to have a test drive with 620 hp Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo car in safe enviroment.

- For many times people have come to me and ask a possibility to drive Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo car. Now this opportunity is going to happen in June at one of the most traditional circuits in Finland. Please contact me for more information, Eskelinen tells.

9.4.2017 - Mikko Eskelinen and Maxx Ebenal collect two podiums in opening rounds of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia - Superb start for the season!

Three previous seasons Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen has been competing in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. During these years he's been 20 times on podium and won silver medal in European series and bronze medal in World Finals. Now in season 2017 he measures his speed in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series together with canadian Maxx Ebenal as german Leipert Motorsport drivers.

In opening weekend of the series, which was driven in Malaysian Sepang F1-circuit, the duo were in excellent pace as they managed to collect two PRO-AM podium positions in first two events of 12 rounds series. In unofficial standings they're also in second position of PRO-AM class.

In Sepang 5,5 kilometres circuit all competitors had to tackle with very hot and humid weather. Therefore tyres, 620hp Lamborghini Huracan race car as well as drivers and team members were working in their limits as sun set the heat and showers gave the boost for humid conditions.

In qualifyings Eskelinen and Ebenal collected 10th grid for the first and 6th grid for the second round. They were slowed down by a sensor failure which gave faulty error readings for Mikko and Maxx during their stints.

- Before qualifyings in free practice sessions we found a good speed. However in qualifyings a sensor failure reduced our concentration and therefore 10th and 6th grids were a bit dissapointments for us. I was 4,572 seconds and Maxx was 2,766 seconds slower than qualifying winners. The gap for pole position drivers was bigger than expected, Eskelinen tells.

Maxx attacked in wet conditions

For the first round of the season Eskelinen started the event in 10th grid. In his 26 minutes stint he was able to pass one position. At the end of his stint a rain shower entered the circuit and gave wet conditions for Ebenal. After drivers change Maxx made thrilling passes and drive the Huracan like he had stole it. After 50 minutes and 22 laps of intense racing Leipert Motorsport drivers entered chequerred flag as sixth fastest in overall classifications and second fastest in PRO-AM.

- I got a good start and was able to pass one fellow competitor in first corner. However the level of competitiveness here in Asia is, like in Europe, very high and I couldn't match for the speed of top drivers because rain setting wet conditions for the circuit. Despite slippery conditions Maxx was able to push hard and pass three competitors. Therefore we're very happy for PRO-AM podium position and sixth fastest performance in overall classifications, Eskelinen tells.

Smooth pace also in second race

For the Sundays' race Eskelinen and Ebenal continued from the point where they had left in previous race. Ebenal entered the event from sixth grid and after 30 minutes of racing he came to drivers change in 4th position and leader of PRO-AM group. Also Eskelinen made a steady lap times but wasn't able to keep reigning PRO-AM European Champion Rik Breukers behind and again collected second PRO-AM podium position and 7th position in overall classifications.

- Maxx made a strong start and made two thrilling passes in his stint. However our rivals Rik Breukers and Nigel Farmer were able to match the speed Ebenal kept and even after drivers change we re-entered the circuit as PRO-AM leaders, I couldn't do nothing for Breukers attack. After he passed me I decided to take it easy and settle for second highest Championship points, Eskelinen tells.

In first round Breukers and Farmer were fastest in PRO-AM as well as in overall classifications. In second round they again won PRO-AM and were 4th fastest in overall classifications. Eskelinen and Ebenal knows that they have to improve a lot of their performance to be able to challenge Breukers and Farmer in this season.

- This weekend was a very important success for us as we know that steady performance will be rewarded at the end of the season. Even it was very hot and humid, we managed to improve our speed and therefore 6th and 7th positions in overall standings were pretty ok for us. Instead we're very happy for first two podiums we collected in PRO-AM group and are now in second position in unofficial standings. Therefore the goals we had set for this weekend were fullfilled and now we've already started the preprarations for next two rounds which are to be driven in Thailand Chang Circuit in the middle of May, Eskelinen tells.

- Co-operation with my new team mate, canadian Maxx Ebenal has been very good. We've found common thoughts for the car setup and competition strategy. Therefore I strongly believe that his strong experience from following Thailand, Japan and China circuits are our advantage. However we must remember that we're driving a 12 rounds series where our goals are set for Championship medals. Therefore secure performance in every round with steady podium positions are our main target. We know that retirement and zero points is the worst thing can happen to us, so we try to avoid all unnecessary risks, Eskelinen concludes.

23 minutes coverage from the weekend is to be aired in Finnish National TV-channel MTV3 Max in Thursday 18th May 2017.

In April 2017 at circuit of Sepang Malaysia the Lamborghini Super Trofeo ASIA series got underway with a superb result performed by Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and canadian team mate Maxx Ebenal. Now a month later in May, Leipert Motorsport drivers celebrated again on podium as they collect two podium position in Chang Circuit of Buriram. In overall classifications highly experienced duo were 7th and 11th fastest.

Eskelinen and Ebenal entered the tropical two 50 minutes events with high hopes. Preparations were gone excelently and therefore hot and dry conditions weren't a problem. In qualifyings both drivers collect 8th grid which gave good positions to fight for PRO-AM group podium positions.

In first 50 minutes and 30 laps race Eskelinen took a bit too careful start and wasn't able to challenge their rivals Carrie Schreiner and Richard Goddard which Lamborghini lowered from PRO-group to PRO-AM group. Also Eskelinen and Ebenal weren't able to challenge top PRO-AM drivers Rik Breukers and Nigel Farmer. Still third highest Championship points were a good result from intense first race.

I was a bit too soft at the start and lost one position when entering first corner. However in my turn I was able to re-take 8th position and bought the car to Ebenal after approximately 23 minutes from the start. Maxx made a good job in his stint and after about 130 competitive racing kilometres he came to chequered flag as 7th fastest in overall classifications. We were 16,234 seconds slower than winner and second fastest, Eskelinen tells.

In the next race Maxx had a dramatic start from 8th grid as in first corner he passed fellow driver inside of the corner. However the passed driver didn't looked his mirrors and had a collision to Maxx. Impact was so severe that the rear wheel of the car lost the balance and the car started acting like a twisty snake. After 28 minutes of driving Maxx delivered the car to Eskelinen. Even serious technical problems Mikko was able to reach chequerred flag as 3rd fastest PRO-AM driver and secured fourth podium position in fourth event of the season.

- For the second race we entered with heavy attack mode as our goals were set to challenge top PRO-AM drivers. Unfortunately that challenge lasted 200 metres as the collision caused our car to lose its' competitiveness. It really was hard even to keep the car straight. Fortunately we didn't give up and, once again were able to reach our goals, Eskelinen tells.

- Season 2017 has started with excellent results as in Malaysia as well as in here Thailand we managed to collect podium positions. Also Championship standings is thrilling as we're in silver PRO-AM position after four events. However we still have lots of work to do if we want to challenge our fellow rivals. Breukers drives a lot in Europe as well as in Asia and therefore his routine for racing is intense. However we don't give up as next event is to be driven in Japan at fourth weekend of June.

Both Buriram events were won by Malaysian Afiq Yazid and japanise Kei Kozzolino. Leipert Motorsport second car, which was driven by aussie Ben Gersekowski and british Rory Collingbourne, was third and second fastest in overall classifications, as well as in PRO-group.

Finnish national television channel, C More Max shows Buriram action in June 22th 2017. The broadcast can also been seen in Youtube at next day.

Final results Lamborghini Super Trofeo Thailand May 20th 2017: 1st event overall classifications top-5:

In 3rd weekend of Lamborghini Super Trofeo ASIA series, which was driven in japanise circuit of Suzuka, Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and canadian ace Maxx Abenal accomplished fifth podium of the season after dissapointing retirement due transmission problems.

In rainy summer weather Leipert Motorsport drivers entered the event with their 620hp Lamborghini Huracan. After colourful events and intense racing in wet conditions they finished the weekend in results they had set. In Pro-AM group Eskelinen and Ebenal were 3rd and in overall classifications they were 8th fastest.

The 50 mites race was started behind a safety car and when it entered the pit, Eskelinen was able to keep his 10th starting position iun his stint. At the time for mandatory pit stop and drivers change, Mikko delivered the car to Maxx in 3rd position of PRO-AM group.

Canadian returned to very wet circuit and gave a superb show of his talent as he was able to reduce the gap for PRO-AM silver position driver. However in penultimate corner of the circuit one slower driver braked a bit too early and Maxx was forced to make a action to avoid a collision. He had a 360 degrees spun and lost 7 highly valuable seconds. However he continued flat-out racing and finished the race just 5 seconds slower than silver podium position drivers.

After Satudays' dissapointing retirement, which was caused by a broken gear box, Eskelinen was very happy for 3rd position even he was a bit scared of pre-race earthquake which was measured as 5,7 in Richters scale.

- In Saturday our gearbox literally blew up. Fortunately our rival team showed their skills of professional racing team and loan a gearbox for us and we could drive a technically trouble-free event. In my stint I was able to secure the 3rd position in PRO-AM and Maxx nearly managed to rise us into second position. However he had a thrilling spin and we were forced to satisfy for 3rd position, Eskelinen tells.

- PRO-AM group was won by japanise Takeshi Matsumoto with his team mate Toshiyuki Ochiai by superior 38 seconds gap. FIA hasn't given a rank for these drivers and due their result they should be driving in PRO-group. However they're not racing for the whole series and therefore their superb performance is not a threat to us, Eskelinen continues.

Eskelinen ranks Circuit of Suzuka as one of the most challenging circuits he's ever raced.

- Definitely this Formula-1 circuit of Suzuka was a big challenge. Its' altitude changes and very difficult high-speed corners required lots of courage which me and Maxx were able to give. Then in Sunday it rained and the circuit got even harder. Therefore Podium feels like well-deserved and as we learned a lot, we're very keen for the next race which is to be driven at the middle of August in japanise circuit of Fuji. Lets' hope that there won't be earthquakes because I was a bit scared of the 30 seconds shake which was measured as 5,7 in Richers scale, Eskelinen told.

In overall classifications japanise Kei Cozzolino and his malaysian team mate Afiq Aziz drove their sixth victory of the season. They've been victorious in all rounds driven so far. Second car of Leipert Motorsport, which was run by PRO-drivers australian Ben Gersekowski and british Rory Collingbourne were 3rd fastest in first race and 5th fastest in second race.

Next event for Mikko Eskelinen is a national rally which is to be driven inside WRC Rally Finland at the end of July. In Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series Eskelinen and Ebenal are in second position at PRO-AM group.

Final results Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, 6th round, Suzuka #2: Pro-AM -group, Top-3:
1. Takeshi Matsumoto & Toshiyuki Ochiai, 20 kierrosta
2. Carrie Schreiner & Richard Goddard, +38,246sek
3. Mikko Eskelinen & Maxx Ebenal, +43,274sek
4. Rik Breukers & Neil Farmer, +1 kierros

29.7.2017 - Mikko Eskelinen once again on podium at Vetomies Rally - P3 still a big dissapointment

Highslide JS

Highslide JS

Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and his co-driver Arto Kapanen started Vetomies Rally with fastest special time for Super Special which was driven in central of his home town at Jyväskylä. However after six intense and very fast-paced special stages the duo, which competed with Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2, weren't able to reach their goals. Even third fastest performance of the rally was actually a very good result, Eskelinen and Kapanen were still dissapointed competitors as their goals were set to improve their P2 which they had driven in season 2013 edition of Vetomies Rally.

Vetomies rally included six special stages and 101,85 special stage kilometres. After colourful events Eskelinen and Kapanen picked third position by beying 48,1 seconds slower than winner Mika Rampanen and 43,3 seconds slower than silver medalist Janne Eronen. 4th fastest driver Mika Krouvi was over a minute slower than WRC-duo. Eskelinen, who in current season drives Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series, said that the reason for lack of speed can be found between steering wheel and drivers seat.

- Even we had no action and we're able to drive without major difficulties, our speed wasn't enough to reach our goals. Maybe I just drove too carefully and therefore the clock didn't like our progress. Furthermore as I stalled engine to the start of the Päijälä stages I lost the rhythm and didn't got it back, Eskelinen tells.

- Our goals were set for victory but we had to satisfu for lower Podium positions as Mika Rampanen and my dearest rivan Janne Eronen were a bit better than us. Now we have to wait a year more for a new try. However my thoughts are on their way to Japan as Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series continues in next three weeks at Fuji, Eskelinen continues.

Nelivetomies rally was won by Mika Rampanen as it was his first-ever. Janne Eronen lost the victory to Ouninpohja stage where he made a mistake and was very nearly experience an off.

Final results Nelivetomies Rally 2017
1. Mika Rampanen & Veikko Kanninen, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, 51:02.1
2. Janne Eronen & Ville Mäkelä, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, +4.8sec
3. Mikko Eskelinen & Arto Kapanen, Mitsubishi Lancer WRC Step2, +48.1sec

Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen is competing his 4th season in international Lamborghini Super Trofeo racing series. Now in season 2017 he's driving his first-ever season in ASIA championship series with canadian team mate Maxx Ebenal. In eight rounds they've collect six podium positions including 2nd PRO-AM position from eight round of the season which was driven in roots of Fuji volcano. In overall classifications Leipert Motorsport drivers are in 2nd position as there are still Chinese Shanghai and Italian Imola weekends to be driven.

In Saturdays' 7th round of the season Eskelinen and Ebenal suffered technical difficulties as the brake system of their car went out-of-order. However during the race Leipert Motorsport mechanics fixed the problem and duo were able to collect 4th highest PRO-AM Championship points.

In Sundays' 8th round of the season Ebenal entered the 50 minutes race from leading PRO-AM position. However drama entered the arena in first corner where japanise fellow competitor decided to win the whole event. He didn't brake in time and caused heavy collision and ruined the race of his and two other fellow competitors. Ebenal also experienced his heavy impact and dropped into 3rd PRO-AM position. However Maxx pushed medal to pedal and bought the car to drivers change in leading PRO-AM position.

Due first corner crash the event jury gave Stop and Go penalty to japanise team drivers and therefore they dropped to 3rd position in PRO-AM group. Saturdays' silver medal driver Carrie Schreiner experienced also a crash where she had a spin and puncture. These insidents dropped her and her team mate Richard Goddard out from podium.

In the middle of the second race Ebenal bought the car to Eskelinen who fought hard against professional racing driver and PRO-AM Championship leader Rik Breukers. However Eskelinen was forced to give up the fight due the damage his car suffered for steering in first corner collision. Still Flying Finn bought the car to chequerred flag as 2nd fastest in PRO-AM. This was 3rd time they had collect silver podium position during the season.

- When I saw how fellow japanise competitor had a thrilling attack and causing a heavy collision I was 110% sure that it was game over for us. Fortunately Maxx was able to continue his stint and making many excellent passess so that I could continue driving from leading PRO-AM position. However when I entered the car I immediately noticed that there is a problem in steering. Then a lap after another it came harder and harder to steer the car and I was forced to let Breukers pass me without a fight. Still podium and 2nd highest Championship points were very welcomed after Saturdays' technical problems, Eskelinen tells.

- In Championship standings after eight rounds dutch Rik Breukers and his team mate Nigel Farmer have increased their leadership now to 21 points. At the same time we were able to increase our 2nd position gap to 16 points for dutch Carrie Schreider and his australian team mate Richard Goddard. I'm very happy for this situation and looking forward to continue driving in fourth weekend of September at Formula 1 circuit of Shanghai, China, Eskelinen continues.

Both Fuji events were won, again, by japanise Kei Francesco Cozzolino and his malaysian team mate Afiq Yazid. As they have won six of eight rounds, they're leading PRO-series with big gap. Leipert Motorsport PRO-drivers, aussie Ben Gersekowski and british Rory Collingbourne were penalised by too short pit stop and false start. Also many other teams were penalised by jury.

Finnish Racing drivers Mikko Eskelinen and Patrick Kujala collect three of four possible Podium positions in 5th round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series, which was driven in chinese Formula-1 circuit of Shanghai. PRO-AM driver Mikko Eskelinen celebrated silver and bronze position and fellow Finn Patrick Kujala collect silver PRO-position from the first race. In second race he experienced one of the worst offs of his career as he lost brakes at the end of the long back straight. Even he hit heavily to tyre barriers with speed of 170km/h, he still walked out of the situation without serious injuries. At the moment of the retirement he was having an intense competition for the overall victory.

German Leipert Motorsport driver, Mikko Eskelinen, is currently celebrating his 10-years of motorsport career and having one of the most successful racing season of it as now he's been able to collect eight podium positions of 10 possible with his canadian team mate Maxx Ebenal.

In first round of Shanghai weekend Eskelinen and Ebenal lead PRO-AM for 47 minutes of 50 minutes event. However just three minutes before chequered flag their worst rival and fastest man of the circuit, dutch Rik Breukers passed Eskelinen and drove into victory. In overall classifications Mikko and Maxx were 7th fastest.

- In Qualifying Maxx set us top position in PRO-AM. In the race he got an excellent start from seventh position and during his stint was able to pass two fellow competitors. Then I tried to maintain that position and nearly was able to keep it. However just three minutes before the end I lost the battle to Championship series leader Rik Breukers, Eskelinen told.

On next day Eskelinen entered the wet 50 minutes race from 10th and 3rd PRO-AM position. During his stint he was able to avoid drama and after 22 minutes of racing he came to pit stop and drivers change as job well done man.

Ebenal was again in excellent pace and was catching PRO-AM top leading drivers. However another Flying Finn Patrick Kujala experienced brake failures and hit tyre wall with massive 170km/h of speed. Safety and medical car was called to circuit and race ended behind the safety car. Therefore the strategy for Eskelinen and Ebenal came to an early finish and they were unable to reach their goals. In overall classifications the duo were 8th fastest.

- For the whole racing weekend we had a different competition strategy for our rivals. In first race it lead us to PRO-AM silver Podium position and in second race we had all possibilities to drive for our first victory. However when Patrick Kujala experienced this huge crash we immediately knew that it was game over also for us. Fortunately Kujala sustained only minor injuries in the event, Eskelinen tells.

- Eight podium positions of ten possible has kept us in PRO-AM silver medal position in overall standings. Before the final weekend dutch Rik Breukers and his team mate Nigel Farmer are leading the series by 29 points and german Carrie Fischer and his australian team mate Richard Goddard are now 17 points behind of us. Breukers was one of the fastest man in the circuit this weekend and, to be honest, we have no possibilties to match for his speed. Thefefore silver position is definitely the best we can accomplish from this series, Eskelinen tells.

Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, Asia and America series are having their closures in season 2017 final racing weekend which is to be driven in the middle of November at italian circuit of Imola. After two final rounds of the series the drivers are set together for thrilling competition in two World Final rounds. Therefore Eskelinen and Ebenal are having lots of expectations in the events which are to be driven in home circuit of Lamborghini brand.

- Because there are 15 points to be given for the winner of the race and as there are still two rounds of ASIA series to be driven, there are 30 Championship points plus two extra points from qualifyings to be given for drivers. This means that we still have a very, very narrow possibility for the Championship title. We only need to be fastst in qualifyings and fastest in both races - and our worst rival Breukers and Farmer cannot have a single point. To be honest, our focus are already set for World Finals, Eskelinen shares his toughts.

First round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Shanghai overall winner was japanise Kei Francesco Cozzolino and his malaysian team mate Afiq Yazid. In Sunday fastest was polish Artur Janoz with his british team mate Toby Sowery.

Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen made Finnish Racing history in final two rounds of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series which were driven in legendary italian circuit of Imola. Eskelinen finished the events in 2nd and 4th PRO-AM positions which were enough to secure first-ever silver medal for Finnish driver in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series. Superb performance with canadian Maxx Ebenal was an excellent continution for season 2015 Lamborghini Super Trofeo European Championship series.

During past six months Eskelinen and Ebenal has been very competitive in PRO-AM as they managed to collect 9 of 12 possible podium positions. After colorful 12 rounds the duo secured silver medal by 19 points gap for german Carrie Schreiner. Winner of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia PRO-AM series was dutch Rik Breukers and his Hong Kong team mate Nigel Farmer. They collect 31 more Championship points than Eskelinen and Ebenal.

In penultimate round of the season, which was driven in Imola circuit of Italy, Leipert Motorsport drivers made enjoyable stints and collect 2nd highest PRO-AM podium positions. Then few hours later at the final race of the season Ebenal suffered double puncture and therefore tuo dropped out of podium positions. Even a misfortunate final race Eskelinen was still more than happy for the Asia campaign and its' final results.

- For the whole season our faith has been on positions two to four. Therefore PRO-AM silver position has been absolutely our maximum result. This was also agenda in the final race as I started our race from 2nd position. However due miserable start I dropped into third position but then again due pit lane drive thru penalty which one of our rival experienced we managed to get back to silver position which we were able to keep to chequered flag. Then on final round Maxx suffered two simultanious punctures and we dropped out from podium to 4th. Even so 5th silver podium position and 9th overall podium of the season gave lots of self-confidence for forthcoming World Finals, Eskelinen tells.

- Silver medal in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series is nearly a maximum result we could have accompished this season. Ofcouse we could have been a bit closer to our rivals but, to be honest, we had no chances to match our speed for professional racing driver Rik Breukers and his very fast amateur driver Nigel Farmer. Breukers is one of the best drivers in Lamborghini Super Trofeo series and everyone is expecting a lot from him in World Finals. I'm very happy for this season and its' experiences and results, Eskelinen continues.

Season 2018 plans program under construction

In final round of the season Lamborghini Squadra Corse introduced new EVO version of its' Huracan. For season 2018 the car gets major upgrades, especially on aerodynamics. It has been proven that the new car is much more faster than current car which has been in action for three years. Eskelinen hopes to get a seat behind the steering wheel of EVO in season 2018.

- For past for years I've been priviledged to measure and develope my speed in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe and Asia. During these seasons I've driven 52 rounds and been 27 times on podium. Even I've collect silver medals in European and in Asian series, I feel I've done something right. It also means that I can improve one position and because I've already got contract offers for season 2018 it would be really hard to say no for Lamborghini Super Trofeo season 2018, Eskelinen shares his thoughts.

- New Lamborghini Huracan EVO looks really aggressive supercar. It would be pity if I couldn't be able to utilize my experiences and skills I've gained from these four years from European and Asian circuits. But lets' finish the season in World Finals and then enjoy current accomplishements. However decisions for season 2018 has to be made soon because the best seats are available at the moment, Eskelinen continues.

Two final rounds of Asia series were driven together with American series. Both Asian PRO-AM events were won by indonesian Andrew Haryanto with Lamborghini manufacturer driver Milos Pavlocic. World Finals are to be driven in Saturday and Sunday.

- In World Finals Asian, American and European series are set together and therefore there are even more competition on the circuit. I strongly believe that me and Maxx will give a good fight for podium positions even there are many previous, current and new Champions on the same race. It'll be a hellowa competition and we truly have to give all of our best to be able to challenge top drivers. Fortunately nothing hasn't been driven yet so absolutely we'll go on and have a try, Eskelinen shares hopes.

Final four races of the international Lamborghini Super Trofeo season 2017 were driven in legendary italian circuit of Imola. First two races were final rounds of Asia Championship series where Flying Finn Mikko Eskelinen and kanadian team mate Maxx Ebenal collected silver medal. Final two rounds were complitely seperate events as American, Asian and European series drivers were put together to measure their skills in World Finals.

In two intense 50 minutes World Final races Leipert Motorsport drivers Mikko Eskelinen and Maxx Ebenal collected fourth and seventh highest PRO-AM class points and finished the season in PRO-AM sixth position. Winners of PRO-AM World Finals were american Taylor Proto with italian team mate Edoardo Piscopo. PRO class was won by kanadian Mikael Granier with italian team mate Loris Spinelli.

In first race of World Finals Eskelinen and Ebenal had a thrilling battle for Podium positions. Leipert Motorsport drivers entered the event with complitely different kind of competition strategy against their fellow drivers as AM-driver Eskelinen started the event. Even in qualifyings he had one of his best laps during the whole weekend he still was forced to start the event in back row due the reason that all other drivers were PRO-drivers.

In his stint Eskelinen was in good pace and was able to match his speed against top drivers. He also was able to pass one fellow driver. After drivers change Ebenal continued the attack and secured PRO-AM 4th position after Nicolas Gomar was penalised with 30 seconds due causing a collision. Eskelinen was very happy even they lost Podium position just by 1 second.

- In these events our rivals have encountered lots of drama. Also in this first race of World Finals the drivers had many offs. Fortunately we were able to avoid all crashes and therefore eight Championship points was a good start, Eskelinen told.

In next day Ebenal started racing from PRO-AM second position. However in second lap Ebenal suffered a fast-paced spin due fellow competor hitting his car. Even Maxx was able to continue, six other fellow drivers passed him during the spin and it was game over for Leipert Motorsport drivers. After drivers change Mikko had a good run but wasn't able to catch other top PRO-AM drivers. Therefore they had to satisfy for dissapinting seventh position.

Despite miserable final round of the season Eskelinen was still very happy for season 2017 results - Silver medal in Asian series was a superb result.

- In first race we lost podium just by one second and in second race Maxx encoutered drama which one of our fellow competitor caused by hitting our car. After drivers change my role was just to enjoy as Podium positions were out of my reach. Even sixth position in World Finals is not a bad result it still is a dissapointment for me because in season 2015 I was on bronze medals at World Finals, Eskelinen tells.

- Season 2017 is to be remembered one of the best one in my 10 years of racing career. Me and Maxx collected 9 of 14 podium positions and celebrated silver medal in Asian Championship series. I'm now the only Finn who has ever accomplished that result and therefore I'm very happy, Eskelinen joys and continues, - Big thanks for this season goes to my team mate Maxx Ebenal, german Leipert Motorsport as well as for my sponsors and partners who have believed the same goals.

New Finns entering Lamborghini Super Trofeo season 2018 series?

In final rounds of the season 2017 there were many previous Champions and medalists on the circuit. Therefore the level of competition was very high as many drivers opened their season 2018 plans to enter American, Asian and European Lamborghini Super Trofeo series. Also Eskelinen have received offers to drive with new Lamborghini Huracan EVO. He also knows that there might be one or two other fellow Finns in season 2018 series.

- With Leipert Motorsport I've started a Junior Program to enter more Finns to develope their racing career with new 620bhp Lamborghini Huracan EVO. So far we've driven two test days in Spain and there are more to be driven. For many drivers the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series has been an excellent step foward towards GT3 cars. Therefore I'm very happy to be able to help young Finns to enter to international racing arenas, Eskelinen tells.

- Here in Imola Lamborghini Squadracorse introduced their EVO version of Huracan and, to be very honest, it looks very aggressive and fast. Therefore I'm negoating for another PRO-AM season in Asia so that my goals are set only for the Championship title as now in this season I collect silver position. However first I need to have negoations with my wife. My racing season 2018 starts in traditional way at Arctic Lapland Rally which is to be driven in fourth weekend of January at surroundings of Arctic Circle and residence of Santa Claus, Eskelinen concludes.
